It is fcarcely neceflary to remark, that all the benefits which might in any way flow from fuperftition, are fecured to. An incomparably greater degree by the belief of true Religion.
" But among all the ufeful inftitutions, " fays Polybius, "that demonftrate the fuperior excellence of the Roman government, the mod confiderable, perhaps, is the opinion which the people are taught to hold concerning the Gods j and that which other I Of Of whatever benefit fuperftition might formerly be productive, by the fcattered particles of truth which it contained, thefe advantages can now only be reaped from the foil of true Religion; nor is there any other alternative left than the belief of Chriftianity, or abfolute Atheifm.
