The brush and cover were fairly dry and the sound could be heard only now and again, but there was definitely something moving toward us. I was afraid the deer would circle too high and be able to look callers, have varied opinions on what kind of horns work best. Mehling prefers a large set of heavy, symmetrical whitetail antlers. Most authorities agree that bleached or excessively dried horns don't work very well for rattling because of an unsatisfactory tone.
