The summer coat is slightly lighter and less dense than the winter coat which is darkest in late fall and faded toward spring.
There are two molts annually. The spring molt starts on the muzzle and feet and gradually spreads over the rest of the body. This first molt is completed by mid-July. Habitat Mink dwell along the banks of streams and rivers or shorelines of lakes and marshes. They make their homes under the roots of trees, in cavities of banks, under logs or stumps, in hollow trees, or in musk- rat burrows and lodges.
