When you lift your foot, the tail of the snowshoe stays on the snow's surface. If you step backward, the snowshoe is driving into the snow, rather than skimming the top of it. After climbing out of the snow a few times, you'll believe that "Never back up" is an excellent rule. To turn around, walk in a small semicircle instead of backing up.
The second rule, "Walk naturally," saves wear and tear on your moving parts. PRECAUTIONS As in any winter sport, a few precautions are necessary.
With snowshoes, you are close to the ground and moving slowly, so a fall usually isn't serious. Carry light nylon cord for emergency repair to the webbing or a harness.
