When the legislature was nearly wearied out one day a conference took place in the back part of the hall, where the legislature met between Lincoln, Logan and others of the Repup- lican leaders when it was agreed that Lyman Trumbull should be elected Senator in place of Lincoln, which was done. But the friendship which had grown very strong between Lincoln and Wait Talcott continued to the former's death.
When Lincoln was a candidate for President we were all anxious to have him secure all the votes he consistently could.
