The date of organization was May, 1894. The secretary's position is voluntary. Subscriptions support the Association, whose object, according to the constitution, is the protection of -the citizens against any adverse legislation on the part of the City Council. An executive committee of seven holds weekly sessions and determines all measures brought before it. The Association has no organ of its own, but comes in touch with its workers by means of... local boards in each of the seven- teen wards. No member of the Association is permitted to be a candidate for any political office. Women are eligible to membership.
The actual results accomplished have been the indictment by the grand jury of ten councilmen and the beginning of im- peachment proceedings against the mayor. One councilman was found guilty.
