In Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) we meet with a musician who in a very special sense may be described as national.
Bom in a httle village in Bohemia, his early life was passed entirely amongst the "people," and from the bands of wandering players and singers who came from time to time to his native village from Prague or Pressnitz, he absorbed a wealth of Bohemian national tune which sank into his very being, and prepared the soil for the production of those peculiarly individual compositions which later on came from his pen in rich profusion.
