I parti- cularize my equipment, because in fact its nature was the means of my being recovered.
No sight or sound interrupted my ruminations : I walked on in the thick darkness, and in silence so profound that the common simile, you might hear a pin drop, could be as well applied to this as to any other species of stillness.
