Dom Alfonso Henriques, son of Count Henriques, born about the year 1110, governed Portugal for eleven years, under the title of Principe de Portugal ; but after his victory over the moors in the Campo d'Ourique, he was ac- claimed king by his soldiers, by the title of Alfonso I.
