And the men who would have treated fuch an inftruction with moft contempt, would have been the wife and the prudent ; that is, the proud fophifts and learned doctors of the times, who had ftudied the Ptole- maick fyftem of the world, and learnt, by cycles and epicycles, to account for all the motions of the heavenly bodies.
