At Linlithgow, which lies in the road, the kings of Scotland had formerly one of their nobleft palaces ; in the number and grandeur of which they feem to have equalled any princes in Europe. This palace ftands on a riung ground running into a lake ; a fituation which can rarely fail of pleating ; but we were pre- vented by the weather from taking fuch a view of it as we wihed.
