If, on a cloudy night, a bright star appeared for a short time through an opening in the clouds, and we wished to ascertain its name, we could do -so as follows : (1) Observe the star's altitude, and bearing by azimuth compass, to which apply the usual corrections. (2) Convert the bearing into time, and consider it as an H. A. ; also consider the altitude as declination of the same name as the latitude.
