Of the Division, Fleet-Surgeon Finch, C. M. G. , R. N. We were able to take over a large German dug-out along with a Boche medical officer, who rendered us great assistance until we were finally forced to send him back to the prisoners' cage. This dug-out was the most sumptuous I had ever seen. It was three stories deep, and fitted with wire mattresses for over three hundred men. There were entrances from ' No Man's Land, ' from the first, second, and third line trenches, and also one facing th...e Station Road, up to which a light railway had been laid. It consisted of innumerable small rooms, offices, kitchens, messes, and store-rooms, all of which were scattered with clothing, food, equipment and other material which had been hurriedly aban- doned. One room was fitted up as an aid post, and was a model of its kind. It was lined with red canvas, lit with electric light, and replete with innumerable splints, bandages, instruments, and drugs. Opening out of this was a ward containing twelve beds where sick could be made very comfortable.
