Nor, in my opinion, would an ex-President of the United States be degraded by serving as a selectman of his town, if thereto elected. " The people of New England, or a large section of them, always understood John Quincy Adams's real quality. The Plymouth district sent him by a large vote to Congress, and from that time until his death, he represented that region.
