He seems to have felt a distaste for the profession, and turned to the more uncertain career of literature and politics. In 1756 he pub- THE GEORGIAN PERIOD (17U TO 1800) 285 lished an ironical imitation of Lord Bolingbroke entitled 44 A Vindication of Natural Society " in which the style of Lord Bolingbroke was so well imitated as to deceive good judges.
