The application of the demands of Holiness to the minutiae of daily life was the work rather of the priest than of the prophet. xi. 44, 45 P, xix. 2, xx. 26, xxi. 8 H). Thus the idea of Holiness, as reduced to practice, may be said to be mainly the contribution of priestly thought, and explains the minute scrupulosity in matters of ceremonial detail which characterises the religion of post-exilic Judaism.
