To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

There follows, in Professor Royce's essay, an exposition of some of the most important features of The New Logic, es- pecially as this includes 'Order- types. ' In these sections such subjects as Relations and their 'Logical Properties, ' Classes, Series, the Correlation of Series, Functions, and, finally, 'The Logical Genesis of the Types of Order, ' are presented in consider- able detail, and the following interesting statements, bearing upon specific points, are made (p. 97): "Relations are
...of such importance as they are for the theory of order, mainly because, in certain cases, they are subject to exact laws which permit of a wide range of deductive inference. To some of these laws attention must be at once directed. They enable us to classify relations according to various logical properties. Upon such properties of relations all deductive science depends. The doctrine of the Norms of deductive reasoning is simply the doctrine of these relational properties when they are viewed as lawful characteristics of relations which can guide us in making inferences, and thus Logic as the 'Normative Science' of deductive inference is merely an incidental part of the Theory of Order.
