... ago all educated Samoans wished to become Chris- tian ministers or missionaries. That is one great proof of the change from olden days, when everybody worshipped birds and fishes and trees. But it was a mistake for them all to want to become ministers. They seemed to think only ministers could serve God. They called the ministry the " work of God, " and all other work, however good and useful, was not regarded as His. So the missionaries from Peri- tania (Britain) have tried to show them what you already know, that all good work pleases God, and they have largely succeeded, by teaching them useful employments.
