It is recorded that in the Talavera Campaign, and during the hot season in Spain, General Craufurd marched with his Hght division, each man carrying a very considerable weight along with him, 62 miles in 26 hours, and left only 17 stragglers behind ! Had there been any necessity for it General Steel would probably have endeavoured to emulate General Craufurd, notwithstanding the difference in the two climates.
