Kent's confusion w^as great, and my indignation greater, to think my precious life had been exposed by mistake all the morning, when some Pennsylvania adjutant might as well have been in the same place ; and from the way the natives of the Key Stone State had treated us, the life of one of them had but little value in our eyes. By the time I returned to our line, it had ceased firing and was resting; the enemy had retired in confusion, and our object was gained.
