On the west side is the Municipal Palace, and on the north side stand the extensive range of buildings known as the Government — once the Yiceroy's — Palace. The space which was formerly occupied by the wide and clumsy-looking adobe wall, built, as already observed, in 1683, and demolished in 1870, is now being utilized for some handsome boulevards, which wUl soon entirely surround the city, and provide thoroughfares for the use of riders, drivers, and pedestrians.
