By 1944 the college had trained a detachment of 910 air crew students and 59 students in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. The nursing program was offered in con- junction with the Williamsport Hospital Nursing School.

In anticipation of this event, the college initiated a fund raising campaign in January, 1947, which a year later had raised $435,633 from the local community.
