It was not ac- cepted, but as a matter of fact the fighting did stop as the people were trying to win over the soldiers by flattering proposals. Two regiments of the line which were at the Place de Vendome yield- ed to the temptation and placed themxselves under the command of General Gerard, one of the Liberal deputies. Vendome sent one of the two Swiss battalions which defended the Louvre, to take their place.
