On Thursday, the 21st of September, 1820, I was desired to be present at the opening of the body of a woman, who had died in child-bed, the Sunday pre- ceding, of her second child, and whose death had raised much clamour in the neighbourhood. I was informed by her accoucheur, that she was, to all ap- pearance, safely deliv-ered of her second child on the Sunday evening, after a natural and quick labour ; that he waited for the after-birth the greater part of an hour, before he made any attempt
...to remove it ; and that he then began to pull at the Funis, without being able to bring it down. Finding, after some fiirther time, that it did not descend, he attempted to introduce his hand into the Uterus, but in this attempt he wos foiled. Waiting a little longer, a 138 sti 'ong after-jpain came on, when he made another tri al by the Funis, and finding an advance, as he th ought, he continued to extract, when to his sur- prize and alarm, the Uterus came out of the parts as large as a child's head, with the Placenta adhe- ren t to it.
