This three-fold division of the subject, the Image of GOD in relation to sin Man made, bought, and made again, I may repeat, nearly exhausts or includes all the more impor- tant relations between GOD and the soul on the side of sin. It represents three great primal positions in which the crea- ture can stand in the presence of the Creator. Firstly : the state of nature, prior to the state of grace : when sin is nega- tive more than positive ; when it consists in the absence rather than the presence of something, and is not actual but original ; when, if the equilibrium of the forces of good and ill is not perfect, yet the forces of evil are at least undeveloped ADD.
