The Aylesbury plant mentioned by the author seems to have been about the first in the country ; very probably the filter press was, like so many other devices, then first adapted to sewage work, after having been used for many years for other somewhat similar purposes, e. g. in sugar refineries.
Concerning the p...roduction of sewage sludge by various proc- esses, it may be of interest to supplement the author's table of sludge data with somewhat similar particulars prepared by the writer in conjunction with his chemical colleagues for the English Sewage Commission some years ago. Although hypothetical, these figures were arrived at after a very careful comparison of a very large number of examples, and subsequent experience has showed them to be very fairly accurate.
