One test board was placed in the Gulf of Me
...xico in rear of the light- house at the mouth of South Pass ; two test boards were placed in the Mississippi River, one at Quarantine and one at Fort Jackson. The board in rear of the lighthouse is in a location where the water varies from full salt to brackish, whereas the other two boards are so located that the water is entirely fresh, except for short periods of time during the extreme low water period of the river.
Marine Borers Past History — Marine borers have always been troublesome in this territory, except m the Mississippi River above Port Eads, where the water is practically fresh for the greater part of the year.
