Sir: The undersigned having been appointed a committee, by the Young Men's National Republican Convention, now assembled in this city, for tlie purpose of expressing to you their desire to visit the tomb of George Washington, at Mount Vernon, respectfully, on their behalf, request your permission to manifest, in this manner, their regard and veneration for his virtues, his patriotism, and dis- 14 tin§uished merits, and the gratitude they owe to the father and benefactor of their country.
