Rufus King has a national reputation, as one of the great men of the day of Washington and Jefferson. Educated at Harvard, he was elected a representative from Massachusetts to the Con- gress under the Confederation, and a delegate to the Constitutional Convention at Philadelphia.
In 1784 he moved to New York, was one of the first two senators of that State... to the Congress 1 Excepting a notice of him in tlie Popham volume.

Cyrus King, the younger half brother, was scarcely less marked for intellectual power.
