Dr. Cooper, President of Kings College, New York, America, that Mr. Sampson Simson, a very worthy and beneyolent old gen- tleman of the Jewish persuasion liying in that City is in possession of a manuscript of very great antiquity, containing the whole Hebrew Bible, which he probably would send to England for my use if I pr...operly requested it. By Josbph Jacobs, Esq., N'ew York City, In a measure, modern Jewish history may be said to date from the Damascus affiiir of 1840, when a monk named Father Thomas, with his attendant, mysteriously disappeared, and'^irteen Jews of that ancient city were seized and examined under torture on the charge of having put him to death in order to use his blood for ritual purposes.
