It has been used time out of mind for refuge by the neighbouring villagers, when prosecuted by the government ; and the hiding place habitually used in modern times may well have been that i^esorted to in the days of Phinehas and even of Saul.
6. There must be some reason for the repeated mention of six in con- nection with hundreds in reference to Mugharet el Jai, and its occupation by the six hundred Benjamite survivors would be a likely and reasonable explanation.
