Instrument The testing instrument used in the major study was a questionnaire consisting of the following sections: (l) 40 instruction, (2) personal data, (3) the nine episodes based on the preliminary survey, and (4) the scheme by which subjects could respond. The questions pertaining to personal data focused on age, gender, native culture, and educational level. Information regarding each subject's age, gender, native culture, and educational level made it possible to retrieve his/her persona
...l data easily in any possible effort involving subsequent analysis. This information also provided an opportunity to check the background information for each subject. To avoid possible gender bias, the episodes used to elicit subjects' discontented responses were gender-free, i.e., only the family name of the offender in each episode was used. For the subjects answering the questionnaire in a cultural environment other than their native culture, the length of their stay in this culture was ascertained to establish their degree of time proximity to their native culture.
