The Battle of Plattsburg made the Peace possible ; the Battle of New Orleans, in my view, made it palatable and therefore permanent, In saying this, I do not affect to give the official Canadian view— if there is such a view— not the Canadian view, but one Canadian's view, which may or may not recommend itself to others, Canadians or otherwise.
