The position of the trestle is accurately adjusted by the cable men, and the legs are thrust down and driven with a maul into the bed ...of the stream. To allow for the tendency of the latter to spread apart when driven into the ground, they should, when first touching bottom, make a less angle with the vertical than fifteen degrees.
