A nasal intonation of the voice is always caused by any condition which 858 A MANUAL OF SURGERY interferes with the closure of the naso-pharynx by the vehim during articulation. Occasionally when the aperture is small, the local disease soundly cured, and the general health good, an attempt may be made to close it by stripping up muco-pcriosteal flaps, paring the edges and suturing them together.
The results are, however, seldom satisfactory.
Any of the ordinary forms of inflammation of bone may be met with in the hard palate. Necrosis is usually due to tertiary syphilis, or may accompany acute subperiosteal suppuration, extending from an alveolar abscess.
