It is not for our sake merely that God is merciful, but because there is an altar of incense in His presence ; and our prayers, mixed with that incense of our Saviour's interces- sion, rise up as a memorial before God. And in our life of labor let us ever keep before us the sense of our unworthiness and of God's mercy to us ; and then, when life draws to a close, if we stand trembling at the thought of labors apparently useless, and lament in the words, "Woe is me, for I am an unclean man, " the angel shall be again commissioned with the symbol of mercy to cleanse our sins ; and our purified souls shall be admitted to see the Lord high and lifted up, eye to eye, spirit to spirit, and to join in the seraph song of "Holy, Holy, Holy!"
