The New Year of all Slavonic nations of the pagan period began to- wards the end of our December, or, as the Servians say, it began " in the days in which the sun, having gone far enough into the snowy plains of the win- ter, turns back, retracing its steps towards the green fields of the Summer." After twelve centuries of Christianity, the Servians keep up lovingly these remnants of their ancient faith.
