In a former letter he had joked with Sidney about marriage, and commended to him the example of Edward Wotton, who had just taken a wife. Sidney appears to have sent back vehement protestations in favour of bachelorhood. Languet answered : " What you say in jest about a wife, I take in earnest. I think you had better not be so sure.
