MAXWELL, JOHN MILLS, jurist, born March 23, 1849, in Mansfield, Oliio, is tlie son of George Milton and Martha (Mills) Maxwell. His ancestors were promi- nent in the colonial period, and took an active part in the American Revolution. They were also pioneers in Ohio, moving from Conn, to Mansfield, at an early day. His father, George M. Maxwell, was a Presby- terian minister of prominence, an educator of national repute, and, for several years, was president of Lane Theological Seminary, Cincinnati.
