Among the Scotch- Irish that settled West Pennsylvania, Carolina, Virginia, and enter- ed the wilderness of Tennessee, and were gathered into forts and stations, so often made the opportunities of dissipation, it was no uncommon thing for those gatherings to be improved for instruct- ing children, and for seasons of religions worship.
