In respect to the latter, we have another striking example in the conveyance of goods between Glasgow and Edinburgh through the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals; the expence of this runs from 15 to 24 shillings per ton ; it may be averaged at 21 shil- lings ; and the joint length of the two canals being nearly 57 miles, this is at the rate of 4|d.
