This very honourable mark of the confidence of the legislature, in re-electing him unanimously to the office of governor, affected Mr. Henry most sensibly; and to the committee who announced it to him, he gave the following answer: LIFE OF HENRY. 207 " Gentlemen, " The signal honour conferred on me by the general assembly in their choice of me to be the governor of this commonwealth, demands my best acknowledg- ments, which I beg the favour of you to convey to them in the most acceptable manner.
