The missionaries, being thus left at liberty' to pursue their work in their own way, have continued to prosecute their labors with their usual success. ' The statement of this transaction in the succeeding Annual Report of the Board (for 1856) illustrates so perfectly the pious trickery of reservat...ion, misrepre- sentation and insinuation with which these documents are made up, that we quote it in full from the lOoth page :— * In the month of November, four brethren of this mission forwarded a letter to the Missionary House, expressing their wish to be released from their connec- tion with the Board. The Prudential Committee, conceiving that these brethren had misapprehended the true state of the relations existing between them and the Board, directed an answer to this letter to be prepared and forwarded by the Secretary having charge of the correspondence with the Indian mis- sions.
