POKTSMOUTH LOAM.
The soil of the Portsmoiitli loam, in its typical development, con- sists of a black to very dark gray medium to light textured loam, 8 to 18 inches deep. The organic content in all areas is high, and in a few places organic matter is present in such quantities as to give the soil a mucky character.
