We have great caufe to bow, in humble thankfulnefs^ to the God of all our mercies, that he hath been pleafed to make way for his people, [ 111 ] people, to enjoy their religious meet- ings without the leaft moleftation, in this and many other places, where our worthy friends formerly fuffered fore perfecution, by long imprifonment, grievous whippings, fpoiling of goods, and fome of them laid down their lives for the teftimony of a good confeience : and though our God be a gracious, merciful, and long-fuffering God, yet he will take vengeance on all the workers of iniquity, and the day of his wrath will break forth like a con- fuming fire, in a time when it is not looked for.
