.... It appears, that the explanations which all of these parties, so far as can be known, gave of the introductory verses in St John's Gospel, concerning the Word which was in the beginning with God, were the same.
These men agreed together* in denying that the Word was a Divine Intel- ligence, distinct from the Supreme Father. They affirmed that the Word was just the power, wisdom, energy, reason, and will of God, or otherwise God himself. So that when an abundance of divine influence was com- municated to Jesus Christ, or (which is not very different,) when God personally moved him, the Word then was made fiesk, and dwelt among us, according to the view of those persons.
