"Senor Don Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy, "Commanding Philippine Forces.
"General : — I am encouraged by the friendly sentiments expressed by your excellency in your welcome letter received on the 5th instant, to endeavor to come to a definite understanding, which I hope will be advantageous to botli.
*'Very soon we expect a large addition to our forces^ and it must be apparent to you as a military officer, that we will require much more room to camp our soldiers^ and also storeroom for our sup- plie...s. For this I would like to liave your excellency's advice and co-operaUon, as you are best acquainted with the resources of this country." (Sen. Doc. 62, p. 391.) Apparently, however, there was some difficulty about co-opera- tion, when it became necessary for Aguinaldo to do anything, for under date of July 17th, we read: ** General Emilio Aguinaldo.
*'Sir: — Gen. Anderson wishes me to say that the second expe- dition having arrived, he expects to encamp in the vicinity of Par- anaque from 5,000 to 7*000 men.
