Mrs. Hartley died on Tuesda}^ the 2d of October, 1798, in the town of York, and, we can give no better sum- mary of her excellent qualities than set forth by the news- paper of her day: "It may be truly said of her that she was a loving wife and tender parent, an intelligent mistress, a sincere friend, and a benefactress of the poor.
