Indeed, after lying there a month, he only obtained his release by surrendering to the alcalde the profits of his last expedition, I remarked to him good-humouredly as we passed, that if he did not behave himself well, I should give the alcalde notice of his heretical proposition concern- ing the Tower of Alaejos, which would certainly be worth a year's imprisonment, or an ounce's worth of bribery at the least.
