There was such an abundance of game and fish and such rich fields in which to feed their horses that property laws were scarcely needed. In their do- mestic relations, they followed the custom of the tribes to the north and a great per cent of the Nehalemites of that day either secured wives from the Columbia River tribes or the maidens were won by the northern braves and went there to live.
